The Still Sargasso Sea

lyrics

I stayed awake my way,
was spending the nights by my side,
for while they sleep like angels,
they wake with crime in their eyes,
so I hid away, in the shade,
a self-made spy.

It's not enough,
I'm filling up a boat,
to float an ocean,
and find a new home,
the currents slow,
dragging through the gulf stream,
the still sargasso sea,
where every reed
makes the song of silent seas,
when played by the high winds,
for uninhabited islands,
a music all for me,
or so it seemed.

One night the sea spit and stung,
my ship split, black water filled my lungs,
and as I sank something fluoresced,
a jellyfish, no, a woman's dress,
and she pulled me up on the sand,
and I confessed:

I don't know if you can really hear me,
and are you near me,
or only in my mind?
But, I'm glad that I'm alive,
to see the color in your eyes,
you look like a sunrise,
but how did you get here?
"Well" she said, "I feared,
with everyone around me,
bloodthirsty and howling,
I sailed away from town,
I'm glad it was you that I found,
you didn't seem a stranger,
and were in terrible danger,
with nobody around,
I grabbed you before you went down.

And now that's through,
and now we've found,
it's better as two,
let's sail back to town.
